JBL Speakers, Tonsils, Mass Effect: Revelation Book

I recently purchased a set of JBL On Tour Portable speakers for my Ipod on amazon, and I tell ya.. for 30 40 (oh well eh!) bucks it doesn’t get better. The sound coming out of them is freakin amazing for how small it is. Definitely have some party sound for the house now.

My tonsil recovery is pretty close to complete. I will probably still have a little soreness for a few weeks, but otherwise I feel great and can eat almost anything. I may even try a mixed drink or two this weekend. We’ll see how that goes. As unfortunate as my two trips to the hospital were for rare bleeding, I am happy I had the procedure done.

Along with the speakers, I ordered the book that goes with the game Mass Effect, which I recently finished for the Xbox 360. Outstanding game minus the technical issues. The book is called Mass Effect: Revelations and is written by Drew Karpyshyn, the lead writer for the game. I’ve heard a lot about this book and will be starting it soon. Expect a short review of it in the next few weeks.

New Equipment

I ordered a Lenovo T61p Thinkpad today.  It’s the 14.1 inch model with a T9300 (2.5Ghz 6MB L2 Cache), an nVidia FX570M Quadro card, with the display natively running at 1400×1050.  I decided against widescreen as it is a personal preference on laptops.   Along with it, I ordered 4GB of ram to replace the 1GB stock as it was far cheaper.  I’m waiting to see if the stock card is Atheros or not, rumor has it it is.

I will be reviewing the laptop when I get it on here, not in a normal benchmark sort of way, but just what my thoughts are about it in reference to what I use it for.

The Hakme project is still being worked on.  Slow and steady wins the race.  This thing won’t be launched until it’s out of beta folks, so trust us and wait for it. :)

Nokia 770 redux

In the latest Hak.5 episode I demonstrated the Nokia 770 internet tablet in more detail than on the live show this past summer. The show notes are here:  http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/Episode_3×05#Nokia_770_Hacks and should help you get through the process.

Once the N800/810 drop in price they will be the obvious replacements due to better hardware and software.

Enterprise, Flickr, Toys

I tried to sit down and write a couple of times during the week, but I was just too busy.

The Enterprise Fiasco from Hell

The family came down and spent 5 days with me, which was a blast for the most part. We had a horror story worthy of an entirely separate posting, but I will summarize it a bit here: Continue reading

Nokia N770 Internet Tablet

I wooted this little baby the other day for $135 shipped and have been playing with it since yesterday evening. It’s an internet tablet, and allows you to do far more than most low-end PDA type gadgets. I’ve never been that much of an electronic toy person so I don’t have a lot of experience with the numerous different types of things out there that allow you to connect to the internet via wifi vice whatever you happen to have for your cellular plan. It runs a variant of Debian Linux with the 2.6.12 kernel. The device has dimensions of 5.5×3.1×0.7 inches, making it roughly the same size as a PSP. Continue reading
